About Carping in the Carpathians

To those members who may think that this is a typing error I am sorry to disapoint them This is playing on words (jeux de mots which the English like so much) as a challenge to our members;
Definition of the verb "to carp" -
definition in the "Oxford dictionary" 5th edition, 2002, vol 1, page 348:
1. verb intransitive & transitive - speak, talk, say, tell
2. verb intrans - sing, recite (obsolete)
3. verb intrans - prate, chatter
4. verb intrans - talk querulously, find fault
5. verb trans - find fault with, take exception to
(from Old Norse - to brag and Latin "carpere" - pluck, slander, calumniate).

Other definition of "Carp" (noun) - a Dacian tribe which lived in the 3rd century AD in Eastern Romania (Moldavia) and who constantly fought against the Roman empire.
The name of the Carpathian mountain chain derives from "Carpii" - the name of this ancient tribe.

"CARPING IN THE CARPATHIANS": is a group about the Carpathian mountains chain which straddles from Slovakia, across Poland Ukraine and finally Romania. It also includes the Apuseni Mts of Transylvania, known as the Transylvanian Alps.

The Carpathians are an Alpine chain stretching from Central Europe and separated from the Austrian Alps by the Vienna Basin, whilst at the other end it is separated from the Balkan Mountains by the Danube gorges.

This is a group essentially about scenery but also about people and bests, flora and fauna, still unspoiled and ecologically very rich.
It is a group about trecking, hiking, climbing, mountaineering and caving , but also about winter sports, snowboarding and skiing
Do not forget the rich intra-mountain valleys and the caves, the conservation, the natural reserves, the mountain villages, the costumes and the ancient traditions of the shepherds and the effect of transhumance (the trecking of the shepherds with their flocks from the highlands to the lowlands).
There is also a rich HISTORY of people of old - the Dacians whose fortresses were in the Transylvanian Alps and surrounding areas,.
but also of the more modern people from the Motz country, the Oas and the Maramures regions, about the ancient gold and silver mines exploited well before the Roman times, which today cause the heated debate about the ROSIA MONTANA and its destructive impact on ecology.
The history of the Carpathians is also about the anti-Communist resistence in the Romanian Mountains from the late 1940's to the early 1960's - a history which emerge only now from the shadows.
It is a story about Sighet, Aiud, Fagaras and Miercurea Ciuc political prisons and other such places of extermination, where prisoners perished and were thrown into unmarked common graves. it is a story about the mines where political prisoners were used as slave labour.
