Engaged portraits of Londoners. At home, in the street, in the studio, on the tube - wherever.
The portraits must be taken during the life of the project: January 2007 to December 2007. Please, no edits of legacy photographs from the back of your photostream. The idea is to get a glimpse of people, in the here, and in the now. No back catalogues, no appeals, sorry .
By engaged portraiture, we do mean staged or posed, but we also mean photos where the photographed is obviously aware that the photographer is there. We don't want what the US calls 'street', where people are being caught unaware, although of course it's okay to take photos of people actually outdoors, in the street. We think our contributors will know the difference. Posed is good, but relaxed and unposed is fine too: the photographs certainly don't have to be of professional models or in studios.
This is a collaborative project. One photograph a day will be selected for our blog, and at the end of the project, sometime in December 2007 or Jan 2008, we'll have a look at the collection and aspire to organise an exhibition and probably a book.
This group will be invite only, we would like to find good qality portraits where permission has been obtained at the time, or can be ascertained afterwards. Tacit consent is also good, where it is clear from the photograph that the subject knows they're being photographed.
The 365 Britons and the 365 Londoners concept collaborations were conceived and designed by Monkey Magic at the end of 2006. Long may she have the final word on everything here.
