The shot in the main post was from some time ago. Thought I'd use yesterday's shot for one as well so as to participate myself.
Looking forward to seeing what everyone else does.

Chris, this isn't to be considered for the series, I just wanted to add that people should get creative with their light source. This one used only the cigarette lighter as a light source, so there's lots that can be done with this.

I'll see what I can come up with to actually use as this weeks shot. Great idea by the way!

I actually have done this type of thing quite a bit over this first couple of months of my 365 days. Typically, I use a naked flash fired at extremely low power, placed about six inches from my face.
In this case, I used my homemade softbox (20x20 -- I made it from foamcore, duct tape, and some discarded opaque fabric) from about a foot away, and fired at one-fourth (or one-eighth) power. It produces FAR more diffuse light, so you can actually see more of my body and the wall behind me, not just a small part of my face illuminated by the flash.

Here's my first for the week. I stood between one of my studio strobes and a white sheet. Poof, giant shadow.

Is this dramatic lighting?

Or would it be this?

Can't wait to see the podcast, but in the meantime...

I was playing around with a glass souvenir and noticed that if I held it up to one of my lights and angled it just right, it would focus the light through it and on to my face, eliminating the shadow from my hand.
The glass is clear, but shows a bit of color when lit by tungsten light.

The posting of the podcast has been delayed due to a hard drive failure. It will be up eventually. Right Stephen? Right? Please?

Yes yes... it was a labor of love folks. I almost cried yesterday when ALL of my 365 stuff went away. I recovered it though and have put it all back together again. Podcast is up.. enjoy.
So, here is my contribution to the "Dramatic Lighting" theme!

I thought I would post this for all the 365ers wanting to explore the oh so sophisticated "Desk Lamp Technique" that James mentioned. Hehe.

There isn't alot of shadow in this one, but if I'd angled the lamp more sideways, the left side of my face would have mostly disappeared into the black.

Done with a bit of card, wrapped round my flash and squashed so it only lit my eyes, fired at 1/16th power at my face, hand held.

Although I played around with light a lot a few weeks ago, I did this one tonight because I couldn't think of anything else to do. I did a 2 second exposure with a really low watt light bulb.

So, for day 100 I decided to do a photo based on two techniques we described on the show... light writing and dramatic lighting.

Today:

And yesterday:

I'm not sure if they are dramatic, but the lighting at least looks unnatural. I've also got these from before (not this week) that I think is fairly dramatic:

I found this much harder than I thought. Granted I only had a manky torch and then the living room lamp dismantled of its lampshade. But I really do have to look into this lightning stuff much more closely...

Day №163.

Hmmm, forgot to post this one. I stood in front of my sink; light sources were the light above the sink and the window, though the window light didn't have much of an effect. As I often do with my photos, I maxed out the gamma in Preview. (Original.)
