Lap Quilt Mitred Corner Question

amandageidl says:

I am having a tough time figuring out how to slip stitch these boogers and then tack them onto the back of the quilt. The way I'm doing it (which is most likely incorrect) is causing there to be extra fabric. My corners look pretty bad. I'm barely above a novice at sewing, so any help is appreciated. This is the sort of thing where I think I need someone to sit down next to me and show me how to do it! I'm including some pics. One corner is better than the other, but I still think they both don't look right...oh and this is on the back side of the quilt.

okay-corners can be hard, but once you get it, they will be easy. It look like you are not folding enough fabric down-

Look at the illustration again in my book on page 88, I know it seems funny when you fold it up and then down again (the binding) but then when you turn it to the back it will give you enough to sew into place.

This is a technique that is better shown in person-you might want to call a local quilt shop and take in a corner sample as well-and if you work better from photos, Denyse Schmidt Quilts (the book) shows a photo step out of this that you might find helpful.

Thanks so much. I may have to get someone to show me. I really do better with hands on! I think you're so cool to offer your time to your fans!!!

On mine I did one side straight, then opposite side. THen did the top/bottom straight and folded the raw edges inside. So in the end I used four bits of binding instead of one going around the corners in one big piece.
