About So you want to improve your images(SYWTIYI)

Welcome! Come in and shut the door behind you....Thank you!
You have arrived at an opportune time,as we are about to interview the instigator of this group. One FrAcTuReD fOtOs.
SYWTIYI: Tell me fractured....or is it OK to just call you Jeff.

Jeff: Jeff is fine. All my friends call me Jeff, cept my wife. She calls me Jeffrey And if she is really mad with me, she kind of condenses the word so it sounds tight and ends on a high note.

SYWTIYI: So Jeff, why did you want to start yet another group within Flickr?

Jeff: Hmmmm, thats a difficult question. Well I guess it's because I have been a member of this community for a while now and I have started to notice a few things on how our individual photostreams work....or conversely, don't work.

SYWTIYI: Tell us more!

Jeff: Well I get a fair amount of traffic thru my stream and around 5-10% of people leave a comment. Now the comments are usually all nice and in the beginning I thought it was wonderful. Wow I thought, people really dig some of my images.....I found this very satisfying.

SYWTIYI: As you should!

Jeff: Exactly!

SYWTIYI: So, back to my question. I don't mean to appear rude, but you tend to drift off

Jeff: Sorry. It's a bad habit I have. Maybe thats why my wife condenses my name a fair bit. Anyway, as I was saying....I wanted to start a group where individuals could post an image and have others give valuable feedback. A critique if you like. I want it to be a place where without fear ,members could post their images and receive honest feedback that is not just one persons opinion based on that persons likes or dislikes. I would like the group to give valuable feedback based on some of the key guidelines within photography or inform members of how and why you can bend or break those rules.

SYWTIYI: So it's going to be a boring rules, rules, rules group?

Jeff: I guess so. You see most of us need to know the basic rules of things before we can master something. You may call them rules, but I like to think the word is actually Guidelines. When you know the guidelines, you can then go out and bend or break them. Kinda like parking in a NO PARKING ZONE. We know we shouldn't do it, but sometimes we do it. Sometimes it works and you don't get caught and some times you will be caught out. Simple eh!

SYWTIYI: Go on.

SYWTIYI: The other thing I want to do is invite photogs within the Flickr community as guests, to take a look at some of our images and offer advice in the form of leaving comments. These photogs would be initially sought out by me and from there we can play it by ear.

SYWTIYI: Ok, so you start the group and it proves to be a success. I have heard that you can be a bit of a lazy bas^#!d. Is this true?

Jeff: Who told you that? Why I'll bloody well get to the bottom.......Ok, so maybe you heard correct. I guess it's a bridge we will cross when we come to it. If you are thinking administrative type stuff ...then yes, I guess I will need a hand at some point.

SYWTIYI: Are you thinking of anyone in particular?

Jeff: You bet, I'm great at passing stuff ...errrrrr getting other people involved in the boiler room so to speak. So important. Key function and all that. I'm thinking someone with administrative skills. Hang on I'll just dig thru my list of contacts, friends and family members within Flickr. Darn! It tells me what music they like and what movies they watch and some even tell me of the naughty groups they belong to....but nothing about admin skills.

SYWTIYI: Oh well, I guess that stuff can wait eh!

Jeff: It can. Phew!

SYWTIYI: Well Jeff, I guess that about covers the interview from my end. Do you have any questions of me?

Jeff: Yes, What are your admin skills like :) And while your at it give me the remote ,you control freak!
