My name is Dean Shareski and I'm an educational consultant from Moose Jaw, Sk, Canada. I've spent much of the past 4 months developing my own blog and helping other teachers in our division to pursue blogging in their classrooms.
Using Flickr as part of blogging is a natural fit and many teachers are finding ways to use it as well. I've appreciated Jamie's work in this area and will continue to watch as educators continue to find even more ways to help students learn.

Colin Purrington here -- I teach biology at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, and am using Flickr to familiarize my students with zoo exhibit labels around the world (it relates to a class project). I'm also trying to promote other educators to post their "talk slides" so that other researchers can use images. I have a general interest in how images can facilitate learning in elementary school.

Hi, I teach English in Indiana. I used Flickr to host photos for my class, which is 90% web-based. However, my school blocked it from students. :(

Hello from Orange County California!
My name is Derek Baird and I'm an educational technologist, Gen Y media analyst, and educational television consultant. I blog on those topics at: www.blendededu.com/
Back in 2005 I wrote an article about using Flickr in the classroom for techLearning magazine. Some of the features have changed since I wrote this article, but here's the link: www.techlearning.com/shared/printableArticle.jhtml?articl...
I'm also on the educational advisory board for a pretty slick online audio groups eLearning tool called YackPack www.yackpack.com/education.html
Look forward to exchanging ideas on using Flickr.
Cheers!

Thanks for the ideas, already. I just set up a Flickr account for my classroom, and so far have posted some "educational" or "scientific" photos from my own travels and experience, and a few sample photos from activities the students have done. I'm hoping to use photos to help prompt student writing and other communication. I'm especially looking to link with students and teachers outside of MA for environmental issues and things related to astronomy/space science.
Thanks!
Matt

This looks like a great group. I'm enjoying Flickr just so and originally meant to share photos with people I've met. I teach a variety of things associated with applied linguistics and translation, and at various levels, such as certificate level as in the Australian system and at graduate level as well. This is an interesting group idea and hopefully will spark some other ideas using Flickr in education.

Hi,
I've just come across the group via Derek's Blended Edu blog. Love using Flickr and I'm seriously looking at how we could use a Pro account for our school to share photos easily with parents, each other, and others we might invite. Not sure yet how open we could/should make it, since although I want the web 2.0 ethos of comments and collaboration, I'm concerned that our pupils might find negative comments hard to handle.
I work in a school for children with severe and complex learning difficulties in Banbury, England.
I do blog about bits that relate to ICT and education, sometimes but not always with obvious relevance to pupils with special needs. There's a link in my profile to the website.

I am in a library in an independent high school in MA. We have used Flickr as a PR tool for parents and alums - showing what's happening, displays, tours of the library. Recently, we have started hosting some student photography that has also been displayed physically. We have worked with an ESL teacher to host a student project on what international students coming in next fall need especially to know. We are also working with sophomores in English to host visual representations of poems they are reading. We think it's important for students to begin using the social networking tools beyond MySpace or Facebook. I am very interested in what other high schools are doing.

My name is Mary Jude Schmitz and I am a Geometry teacher at Nerinx Hall High School in St. Louis, MO. I teach perspective drawing and have joined a group called vanishing points which I think will work wonderfully for inspiration for the students drawings. I hope to learn other things people have done in their classrooms. Here is my website for my class: 209.248.208.139/~3kirmar/

Hello,
I am Scot. I teach English to non-native speakers (I abhor the term English as a second language as anything thinker should) and tutor French. I am at present in my native metro Detroit, Michigan. I used to teach English in Poitiers, France in high schools and my last job there was in the Medical school.
Not to take away from this group, but I want to share this group I just discovered: Flickrpedia and I also want to point out the most active group I know of on flickr which is a mix of atheists and religionists chatting on divers subjects. Do You Believe?.
Cheers!
