About The Magical Land of Portland Where else in America do people simply hand out free blue suede shoes, ceiling fans, and furniture (in good condition)? Where else can a girl have first dates that end up resembling a Meg Ryan movie? Where else do people walk snakes on leashes, leaves that creep like the disembodied hand (of The Addams Family)? Where people build cottages to keep the bushes warm and entertain themselves every last Thursday of the month with crafts, art, and the occasional brawl? Where clerks (armed only with a golf club) will chase down armed robbers (who are most assuredly not Oregonians) and have several bystanders help tackle these outsiders? Where else can you see all the deep and beautiful colors of their rose garden? And how about that famous maple tree?
