About Industrial Scotland By the mid 1960's, Scotland was the second most industrialised country in the world, after Germany. A huge proportion of its workforce depended on industry and most people living today can find an industrial past in their family. However, after decades of neglect and deindustrialisation, there remains but a shadow of what was there before.
