About Appropriated - NO VIDEOS.
this group only contains photomontages or collages that use/appropriate an already-existing image. To "appropriate" is different than stealing in that the original meaning and context of the appropriated image(s) is altered by what youve juxtaposed with it, how you have changed it and thus made it your own... something different than what it was; this applies to the content even more so than to the form. Create a different context for the image, dont just embellish it (at least not for this group).
Unporn porn, unsell products, change time and space and people and actions. Make new worlds and new statements. Use text visually. The "already-existing images" must not be your own... they must be culled from the popular culture around you.
there have been a lot of postings of scrapbooky collage involving "ephemera" and the like, or just plain collage, that do not address meaning-of-images whatsoever... i have been culling the group because of this and trying to make it tighter since there are planty of other groups for that sory of work; this is a curated group.
To appropriate – as per this group - is a postmodern idea, in that the work can only exist by recognizing, celebrating, relying on, and CRITIQUING the popular visual culture around us.
This group is not merely for collage work... please read the description carefully.
