31 Jan 08 - thanks folks for adding AND tagging your images. remember, this group is about botanical examples of wildflowers in the mojave desert. habitat shots are fine as long as they have the correct tags, i.e. latin names of the flowers pictured, general location.

if you have any questions please read the guidelines again or send me a note.

if you do not know the latin name of a flower, put it a discussion asking for i.d. help. thanks!

About Guide to Mojave Desert Wildflowers

Wildflowers of the Mojave Desert only. Flowers can belong to more than one desert, but its habitat must include the Mojave Desert.

Here is a map of the Mojave Desert if you are unsure of your location.

digital-desert.com/regions/

Please make sure your photos are sharp and clear. Out of focus images will be removed.

We have adapted the group guidelines from the Wildflower Guide of North America group.

This is a tag-heavy group - if you're not interested in tagging every photo COMPLETELY, please don't add them to the group and cause work for others who volunteer to tag or delete. All images must be tagged!

Each flower posted must have the following tags:
___* Family name – this is the group and family
___* Common Name – Of course each species has many local and common names. Please include at least the one you know it by.
___* Binomial Name - Genus and species
___* Genus Name separately
___* State — location within state - Where the flowers was located, such as "near Barstow" or "off Highway 395 near Randsburg" be sure to put multiple word places in quotes.

This is really important as we would like to know where the images were shot.

Please do not post a flower photo to the group pool and then ask that it be identified. Many of these flowers are difficult to identify from photos alone.

For help identifying plants/flowers try Wildflowers , or the flickr group ID Please . If you've already got a name and want to verify, USDA Plants database .

This group encourages posting a large number of photos of different species at one time (as long as they meet the tagging criteria) - there are no posting limits here! But we're trying to amass a rich variety, so please don't post more than one photo per individual plant unless there is a specific identification character you need to point out. Just pick your best ones to share and post away!

Admin(s) will be strident in the pruning of photos that don't fit the criteria. Thanks for understanding.
