hi guys,
just got a film back. Seems my Praktica LB2 has a light leak. Could anyone tell me how best to fix this? Is it fixable?
I've attached a photo which sows the problem.

Thanks,

David

I think that might be the hinge. There should be some foam where the back meets the hing. There needs to be foam there where it "pinches" to stop light getting in. You can replace that using one of the foam kits you can buy off ebay.

that side is the side it opens on, so i'm guessing it'll be something to do with that?

it is the right side, this because the photo is mirrored in the negative. To attach the foam, you can use bi-adesive (so you can easily change it when it begin to deteriorate

thanks for the tips. it doesnt look like there was a great amount to begin with, but what there was looks very worn. also found a reasonably priced site to get some from. :-)

The old foam is easily cleaned - rub as much off as possible with a wooden spatula, tea stirrer, cocktail stick etc., then you can clean the messy glue off with lighter fluid (Ronsonol or equivalent)

I took a look online again and it seemed that while it would be fairly cheap to fix myself, there was a shop local to me who could do it for a similar price but with more of a guarantee the repairs would work. So i've put it in to www.camerabase.demon.co.uk who are charging £10 for clean up the camera and fix the light leak. Hopefully some nice photo posts coming soon!

thanks again,

david

Glad to have found this topic! I had a LOT of cleaning to do on the Praktica Super TL1000 I picked up at the thrift store, and that foam strip was long past saving, so I scraped it out -- and, of course, I got that exact same light leak all through my test roll.

Guess I'll add a thin strip of foam and see if that fixes it.

I can give you a quick and simple tip for door foam replacement, either the hinge or opening side.

I bust open a used film cassette and carefully remove the felt strips at the cassette opening. I then clean the camera of the old foam as discribed above and then measure the cassette felt and stick it down.

Has worked for me on a few different cameras.
