About 24mm Equivalent

———— INTRODUCTION

A group for any photography with a 84° viewing angle,
equivalent to 24mm lenses on full-frame [35mm film] camera bodies.

———— RULES

- Long side of the photo must not be cropped. That would cut the angle of view.
- A image aspect ratio of 3:2 or 4:3 is preferred.
- All other shapes and sizes like square or widescreen are discouraged.

———— EXAMPLES

Compact, Rangefinder, SLR, Digital or Analog, anything goes.
So long as the angle of view truly is 24mm equivalent to full-frame.

Crop-factor 2.0 x 12mm lens = 24mm eq. (Micro Four Thirds)
Crop-factor 1.6 x 15mm lens = 24mm eq. (Canon SLR)
Crop-factor 1.5 x 16mm lens = 24mm eq. (Nikon SLR / Sony NEX)
Crop-factor 1.0 x 24mm lens = 24mm eq. (Full-Frame SLR)

28mm is not allowed. One might think it's 'close enough', but the difference with a 24mm is actually huge, and that bit of extra perspective is exactly what it's all about.

There are quite a few digital compact cameras that specify a zoom lens starting at 24mm equivalent. For example the Samsung TL350 (WB2000 in Europe).These are actually allowed in the group too, but only when you're absolutely sure the photo has been taken fully zoomed out.

There are also a few very nice standard analog film cameras with a 24mm prime,
these are definitely allowed.
