About 2009 Yearbook - A life in a day for the whole of the year
The Concept:
The concept is simple enough. An image per day for the whole year
The theme for the shots is to encapsulate the most poignant moment of 2009 in an image, ideally with a couple of sentences of accompanying text to explain a little about the impact on your life.
2009 is already connected to the economic downturn and the misery this has or will bring with it. However, the year is made up of a thousand emotions, both bad and good. It could be the birth of a child, the death of a friend, a new job, losing your first tooth, giving up cigarettes or getting married. The subject matter is key in so far as it should motivate that particular day to stand out for you in 2009 as the day that specific incident occurred.
It is essential for contributions to be tagged as I would like to create a list of the most popular tags per day, month and throughout the entire year. The same goes for geo-tagging as the Flickr community is global and I am anticipating that the contributions will depict images from many walks of life to add to the richness of the mix.
I have set up a Blurb application on Facebook called 2009 - The year that was
Community Action:
The aim is for the community to vote on the best image of the day. This will be an on-going process as you can upload images for specific days at any point throughout the year.
The Project's Final Output:
I am a keen user of self publishing and have been using Blurb recently to publish some books of my own. I would like to create a picture book to encapsulate 2009, with the accompanying tags and some info about the photographer and incident.
The final product will be produced under Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0 so please make sure you sign up to this usage when you upload and include your image.
The Motivation:
I have been working with online community applications for several years and love the idea of creating pieces of work or art as a collective. This way, the result is far more objective than subjective and should encapsulate a more considered view of the subject, in this instance, the year 2009.
The Rules:
Community projects should not be hampered by too many rules. However, here is a guide to a congenial group workflow:
- Every image added to this group should be a 2009 Yearbook photo.
- Each image should be tagged with the following:
1) Photographer's name
2) Location (geo-tag)
3) Brief description of incident
4) Key words / tags to describe the image
- Please encourage contributions, rate images and leave comments if you can.
- Finally, enjoy creating photographs and admiring one others work.
