as always interesting pictures and thoughts, reading the blog it is very interesting how things are percieved, these days seems more people tend to give us in the states a negative image more often then not, nice to see a little on the other side.

July 1st 2007 ~ day 178

We took it real easy today... got up relatively early, but took it nice and slow. We had breakfast, chilled a bit in the shade and then went ahead and proceeded with taking care of the garden a bit and cleaned the patio.
Took some great macro shots... there are some beautiful flowers in her garden!
Afterwards, we headed to the beach for some more fun in the sun!

Well, I decided to take care of my DPD early today. I'm still at work, but the bosses have already gone home. It's 6.15pm and I'm almost done for the day. I've got my iTunes blaring and Flickr in my browser... oh the life!!! LOL
Today I played "stupid" with one of my friends from work. She's my closest friend here at work and the one with whom I go on my lunch break with. She's a goof like me, we get up to all sorts of mischief, as you can see!

I can't tell you how powerful that blue self-portrait is. It is a totally different image to what we have come to know over the last 6 months and commands respect. Do you have any Roman emperors in your lineage? That's how you look - Imperious and Imperial. Compelling. Still beautiful.

Art is art, and I thought it was that ,and not "just" a self-portrait of a pretty girl. Maybe you were tired... but it was a very honest and artsy pix. :)

I know what you guys are getting at, and I guess aftre all it's pleasing to know that you can appreciate a "naked" portrait as I like to put it. Alex as her true self.... or as us Italians would put it "Come mamma l'ha fatta" ~ as her mommy made her... make sense?
As bare and true as you can ever get I guess...

July 10th 2007 ~ day 187

My parents a while back went to the Castelli Romani area just outside Rome. There are some great local wine makers there, who sell "home made" good wine at very good prices. As you can see, the bottles are generic green glass bottles, with no label and are refilled each time, after the necessary sterilization of course!
Umm... yeah, I guess my parents forgot to take their bottles back! *tsk tsk*
And in the mess of the renovations, they are gathering dust, grime, muck... you name it!

I LOVE that about Europe. I remember being amazed when I rode around the countryside with my father-in-law in Spain, and he stopped at this farmer's house, and opened his trunk and took out some empty jugs and had them refilled with Vino.
There's nothing like that in the United States.. Illegal, I bet. :P

Yay Jissy, I knew you would back us up. An impressive number of consumed bottles - time to go back to the countryside? Tell us about the wine - what grape is it?
It is a civilized way to buy wine. In the 1970's, we used to take 20 litre demijohns into the countryside where the new Athens International Airport is now, and refill at producers that my late father-in-law had known for 50 years.
Now we get 20 litre bag-in-box from a well-qualified oenologist who also respects the long history of wine on our island.
Oh, and I own up to being the poster of window mannequins, 6 March and 13 April.

to be honest, I couldn't tell you about that wine... I'm an odd Italian you see. I have no desire for wine, myself. I just don't like it. My dad believes there must have been a mixup at the hospital because of this.... no daughter of his detests wine! LOL

So... I guess someone had a bit of fun playing around with the adhesive stick figures on the door of the toilets at work.
Makes for a more interesting room huh? You kind of look at the sign and think...."Hmmm... I wonder just what goes on in there..."
LOL, I know it, I'm a messed up kid!
I went to see a comedian tonight. I'd never seen him or knew any of his work, but he sure was funny!! We were all in tears, laughing to no end! It was a fun night!!
We parked just behind the Colosseum, where this shot was taken. This is a different side than I usually shoot and my tiny compact doesn't take great night shots, but there's something about it that I like.

July 15th 2007 ~ day 192

Well.... no beach for us today. Giulia and I decided to go shopping instead.
Man, can you say Shop 'till you drop? LOL.... we were pout shopping from 4,30pm to 8pm!!
Then we went for a Chinese, and after that we went for a walk in Trastevere, the beautifully busy area. I mentioned it before in my diary someplace.... I wish I knew where exactly. I dunno how Rob does it, but he seems to remember everything he mentions in his!! He's always quoting his own past posts!! LOL
Anyways... we took the tram, which I haven't ridden in aaaages! I hardly EVER take public tansport. I love my scooter too much!
we went down to the Tiber (Tevere) river banks, where they set up tiny bars and stalls in the summer, right by the river, it's rather pretty!!
We got drinks... and looked at the market stalls and just had a great evening, just the two of us. A peaceful gal's night out!
No partying, just some good old fashioned chit-chat!
---------------------------
edit: thanks to Rob's suggestion, I now found the old post I was referring too about Trastevere. If you're interested in learning more, then read further.

After work today I had to go babysit for my cousin. She's only 3 years older than me and has two boys. Her eldest is four and a half, while her youngest is just 9 months old. He's a cutie, let me tell you! While the "big brother" is a bit of a pest! He's as cute as a button but a little devil!! must be the red hair LOL
I really wasn't looking forward to looking after them, after 8 hours in the office, but I'll admit it wasn't that bad! Of course, I did panic a second while trying to feed two kids at once... especially when the baby decided to start crying and not eat.
I suddenly felt VERY very compassionate for all those single mothers who have to deal with more than one kid. How on earth do they do it?
How did you manage Glory? Ugh... you women deserve medals!
Every time I babysit, I always think to myself Alex who are you kidding, there's no way you're having kids!
Hahha... I'm a chicken... I'm too selfish to give up my free time! I know, there's something wrong with me!
