About Alberto Santos-Dumont

When he was a little boy, the other children would laugh when he talked of his dream that "man flies." He would go on to set records, first with airships, then with fixed-wing airplanes in Paris, France. He was the first man to fly a controllable, heavier-than-air machine in Europe with his 14-bis. To Santos-Dumont goes the credit for the importance of investigating aircraft crashes to figure what went wrong and how to prevent them from recurring. A strong promponent for the peaceful use of the airplane (unlike the Wright Brothers), Santos Dumont gave the world the plans for his excellent Model XIX Demoiselle kit plane, which continue to be admired by aviation fans around the world and for which he never charged or earned a penny. "De asas aos seus sohhos"; give wings to your dreams. Obrigado, Alberto Santos-Dumont.
