[Ended] Minifigure Design Contest: Sci-Fi Heroines and Femme Fatales [Pending]

Entry Thread

Anyways guys, I'm going to go ahead and give a choice: Either I can end the contest now and if I get the extra parts before judging commences then i can add them in. If they don't get here in time, then I'll save them for a later contest or something. (Maybe I'll run a few mini contests in this group for them later is what I was thinking.)
Other option is I keep extending it for a few days. I can't extend it past the 9th though. So I may just end up extending it through saturday night if that's the case. Then Arealight and I will do judging and I'll ship off prizes promptly after a doctor's appointment on the 9th.

Minifigure Design Contest: Sci-Fi Heroines and Femme Fatales

When lego makes female characters for sets, they tend to be the damsel in distress or some quirky villainess. What's with that?
Alright, so I know all of you can design your typical Sci-Fi Heroes and Villains, but it's pretty seldom that we see anyone produce any heroines or villainesses. So let's see what all of you can do~.

The basis of this contest is to create a female minifigure that would fit into the science fiction genre. The figure can be based off a pre-exsisting character or a character of your own imagination. If you want you can include a vignette, but it isn't necessary, but at least try to display her well. (i.e.: Don't do any super blurry photos)

Anyways, Have fun, work hard, and good luck.

This contest will run from November 26th 12:01 AM to January 5th 11:59 PM.
The entry thread will pop up on the 26th or 25th.

Judging :
Arealight and I will be judging entries based on design, creativity, effort, and how good the entry looks overall.

Rules of Entry:
1. Entry must contain Arealight parts. (He's the one providing the majority of the prize support after all and essentially holding this contest. ;P)
2. Entry must contain a minifigure.
3. Photo must be clear. Any blurry photos will be disqualified.
4. At least one photo is required for the entry and it must display the whole minifigure.
5. Vignettes are allowed, but again, please have a photo of the minifigure where the minifigure itself is visible.
6. One entry per person.
7. Please keep it "appropriate". (PG-13).
8. New entries only.

Edit: A few side notes:
Any sort of customization is allowed.

Contest Prize Update:
Current prize pool will consist of :
Prize Support:

1st Place:
1 Set of Pink Arealight Parts (not yet released)
2 Female Mandolorians
1 Female Jedi
1 Female Twi'Lek Trooper.
3 Sets of 501st Printed Arms and Legs provided by GreenPeaToys

2nd Place
1 set of Pink Arealight parts
1 female sith
1 Female Mandolorian
2 Sets of 501st Printed Arms and Legs provided by GreenPeaToys

3rd Place-
1 set of Pink Arealight parts
1 female Mandolorian
1 Set of 501st Printed Arms and Legs provided by GreenPeaToys

Each Female Mandolorian and the Twi'lek trooper will be equipped with a BrickArms Prototype item.
More prize support will be coming a long. I intend on adding a few items from MMCB and possible The Clone Factory as well as a few ARC Helmets that will be hand crafted via Miliput and Arealight Helmets.

I am currently working on procuring a few extra items to add into this batch of prizes.

Any questions regarding this can be asked here.

Catsy [CC]  Pro User  says:

While I understand the motivation behind requiring an Arealight product--they are sponsoring the prizes, after all--I think it does limit the diversity of entries you're going to get. With the exception of the curved torsos, most Arealight products are pretty distinctively Star Wars-themed.

Also: "Fatale", not "Fetale".

But all of that aside, this sounds fun.

@Shadowrex: Well... Arealight is hosting the contest and it is an Arealight group...

@Catsy: Well... I have seen people use some of the arealight parts pretty well outside of the star wars theme. I.E. Modifying helmets, twilek heads, using head bands etc. But I guess that gives you a challenge ;P. Find a creative way to use "Star Wars" themed Arealight products outside of the "Star Wars" theme.
Also my bad on the typo. I knew something looked wrong with that..

• Roku •  Pro User  says:

Um, would apoc be considered sci-fi?
Posted 6 months ago. (permalink)

view photostream

Confuzzled Apples is a group administrator Confuzzled Apples says:

@Roku: Wiki says so:

Science fiction is largely based on writing rationally about alternative possible worlds or futures. It is similar to, but differs from fantasy in that, within the context of the story, its imaginary elements are largely possible within scientifically established or scientifically postulated laws of nature (though some elements in a story might still be pure imaginative speculation).

A time setting in the future, in alternative timelines, or in a historical past that contradicts known facts of history or the archaeological record.
A spatial setting or scenes in outer space (e.g., spaceflight), on other worlds, or on subterranean earth.
Characters that include aliens, mutants, androids, or humanoid robots.
Technology that is futuristic (e.g., ray guns, teleportation machines, humanoid computers).
Scientific principles that are new or that contradict known laws of nature, for example time travel, wormholes, or faster-than-light travel.
New and different political or social systems (e.g. dystopia, post-scarcity, or a post-apocalyptic situation where organized society has collapsed).
Paranormal abilities such as mind control, telepathy, telekinesis, and teleportation.

Best rule of thumb is:
As long as you can look at the figure and it has a sci-fi/fantasy feel to it, then you should be good. By fantasy I mean, not reality. So if you look at the figure and you can say "oh this just looks like a normal military person" or "Oh this just looks like a normal person holding a gun" then that wouldn't be very good.

If you're making up your own character with your own story then do this:
What is the back story?
What brought about the apocalyptic condition?
How did people adapt?
How would people be dressed?
If the condition was caused by an invasion then: how would they defend themselves? Would they take the foreign technology and modify it to their own?

A good example of sci-fi post-apocalyptic would be Gears of War.

I have a personal query.

Shouldn't the AL item be on the fig? Since that is what this is, a fig contest, and most entries I have seen don't even have AL items on the fig, but just lying next to it, therefore not part of the fig.

I dunno, it's just something on my mind. :/
