It's such a sad situation for Blythe lovers. I came into the hobby recently and the only way to get older NRFB releases at lower prices is through the secondary market.

This can a be a explanation for what is happening. But I got to adimit as I got a Urban Cow Girl that may be a fake that the quality of the materials are good, the problem is that they don't give a damm to quality control and we have no one to go to solve our problems. Takara should do something like use a holografic stamp or whatever so we can be more sure we are buying a original doll because it's almost impossible to buy Blythe from the official shops from Brazil, for exemple.

yes it is! i feel the same way and i'm super worried about buying blythes in the future!
awesome idea! they have to do something! some way to let us know they are authentic blythes. but i bet it's a tough task to accomplish when the copiers will just copy that as well. it's really upsetting me...

I just dont understand why it's so hard to find the people responsible for making these fakes. Especially considering the fact that we know who is selling them, all they have to do is trace back to where that ebay seller bought their dolls from and keep tracing back from there.. It's not like there's hundreds of different factories making them.

Totally agree and have thought the same thing. Unless it starts hurting sales of the real dolls though (and not just the secondary market) I don't know that they care. It could even work to their advantage.

Counterfeit operations are very prevalent in China so the police are probably too busy tracking down manufacturers of fake medications (that have been discovered in pharmacies all around the world) instead of fake dolls unfortunately :( I believe they have very harsh penalties for this kind of behaviour though so maybe they will get caught some day.

Totally agree with Blythesnob's theory. My fakes look like all substandard materials....and i think the face mold might have been one that was considered "retired" lol....because the facial expression isn't right. But no matter, i will try to do something with them...customize them because its so sad to think of throwing them in the trash?!

I bet your custom girls will be as lovely as "real" Takara customs. I don't see any reason to trash them, it's not like it's the dolls fault of being fake. ;)

I joined this group, I wanted to share this link:
money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2006/05/0...
quoting:
"In addition to literal night-shift activity, the "third shift" is an umbrella term for any form of unauthorized production by otherwise authorized contractors. A common variant arises when a brand owner tells an overseas contractor to stop producing a line of product, and the contractor doesn't.
"You've taught a company to produce something," says one China-based investigator who requested anonymity, "and perhaps that's all those people know how to do. Just because you have agreements doesn't mean those people are going to stop doing what they've learned."
It looks plausible.. I have read somewhere (do not remember where, sorry) that CWC have used some different factories.. so maybe one factory got the message that they are to stop producing.. maybe they went on producing..
And the thought on SBL-looking mold but with RBL construction. Maybe when they made RBL they also made SBL to have the new construction and have made some prototypes but eventually got discarded and the factory used the prototype to make these clones?
Of course just guessing on my part.
I have got no clones in my collection but I am just damn curious about this whole thing.
I have been on Blythes since 2004 and I have memories of TIB discussions back in early times about people buying dolls from china and that these were a little more bad in QC... I am talking about the EBL/early SBL era... I wonder if this night shift thing or lets' say factory blythe thing is actually older than we think?

I noticed some sellers claiming to sell Blythe dolls on Alibaba.com that clearly are not.

I bet the 2nd link isn't even the actual doll they're selling. Looks like they stole a picture from an original blythe kenner =O

Yeah I thought that too, I would like to see what one of their dolls looks like that seller has about 20 different ones. I hope they are real as it would be scary if that many had been faked.

I think the fake ones here are not faked Blythes in regard 1:1 copies of releases, as far as I can see the first is a doll that has been produced by a fashion company a few years ago. I could be mistaken though.
But it's a shame that those are sold as real Blythes.

This one doesn't even look like a Blythe! How bizarre!

I have found a person that is trying to sell me these dodgy nude fakes, I asked her if she had any that looked like Mango and she said ohhh and sent me pics of a Mango and Guava in boxes. I am going to ask for closer pics of the scalp etc.
By pointing out that people are selling similar dolls, all I was trying to show was that they are making dolls like Blythe so some people could be making dolls exactly like Blythe as fakes.

Thank you so much for your investigation! :D
I wonder if this Kary is always the same person, in my opinion the first email sounds like a different person from the latter. Not that it matters. ^^

I don't think it is the same person, they probably just use some pretty girls photo to sell the stuff I'd say. Her English certainly improved all of a sudden.
