Are multiple entries allowed?

^ Sure. Multiple entries are allowed, I would in general discourage it if it will decrease the quality of the two entries. But, if it means your bringing two awesome dragons to the table, the more the better! :D

MOCoff entries cool too?
Can I use a bit older MOC (like a few weeks old)?

@ Deus Otiosus: We are perfectly fine with builds that are being used for another contest. This contest was originally designed to work hand in hand with the CCC at classic-castle. So yes. That being said, you might want to check that it is ok with the other contest/MOCoff. And you can use older MOCs as long as they are new to the internet. So as long as the first picture of the creation or WIP appeared after/on the 22nd of Jan. If it was built in your closet for the last decade and no one knew, thats fine by me. Just be honorable :)
@Julandrius: Yes you can :) for a more in depth answer look up :P
@AceBricks: since it is past Jan 21st you can post as much as you want to whoever, just make sure the final version is in the appropriate place at the deadline :) A lot of people find peer edits and critiques to be very helpful, so go for it, friends can verbally help. :D And we are open to help/offer suggestions to. Nothing in particular about "what will win" but we are always available for people if they would like some MOC input :)
Happy building everyone!!

You told me to "slide it onto a baseplate". Was that meant as a mean of measuring (48x48) or...?
Posted 4 months ago.
|
|
^ it looked as though the MOC was already the perfect size (48x48studs or smaller) but the dragon was off of the base plate to the side (suspended by clear pieces). I simply meant put him on the baseplate and then it would all fit within the max size. :)

"Limited Bionicle is fine, but it should be a majority Lego. Belville, Clickits, Friends, and lego lines like these are all game."
"Absolutely! Think outside of the box on this one... I mean if you want to take apart a lego watch and throw in some of those pieces then go for it. Must be a "Lego made this" product. "
I'd like to confirm that I can't enter a Bionicle dragon, I know it says I can't in the rules, but I have this awesome dragon head that's been lying around for a couple months and Bionicle is my modus operandi.
Either way, best of luck with your contest.

@ Five X Five. We would love you to enter. If there's too much Bionicle then yeah it would be disqualified. I know its hard to measure what "too much is" but basically the general feel of the creation should be lego. I usually use a max of 10 Bionicles in a creation or just use them for joints and stuff. And by 'disqualify' we mean from the running of the top three prizes. Who knows you may end up with a mini trophy? Regardless we would love to see you participate!

By two green baseplates do you mean 64 studs? Also, is overhang allowed for wings and tail? i started a dragon, and it is growing much faster than I expected. I'm going to need all of the size leeway I can get. I really hope that it will still be okay to enter. Right now, the final length is about 68 studs, but wings will be extended off the sides. I'm scared it may be too big.

^ there is lots of flexibility here. Two green baseplates ,or one grey baseplate essentially means when looking down from above he shouldn't go much past either of these two rectangles. 32x64 or 48x48. The entire borders of both are the same length. If you follow the logic then 60x36 would be ok.
With overhang. 4 studs would be fine. The only thing you've mentioned that I would see disqualifying you is the wings. By extending off the sides do you mean 4 more studs? or like 20... Perhaps a different pose, or folded wings. Hard to say without looking at it. If you want to just email a WIP I could lyk?
^ To all, we dont mind being tagged in photos to offer suggestions/advice, but that limits the length and directness of the response. Also we personally dont like ever posting WIPs, but rather email them to a close few for input rather than show/ask the world. Our gmail is on our profile if you'd like us to do the same for you. (dont do this if your only gonna do it for this contest lol) You want to find people you respect in maturity/suggestions for all the ways you build to critique your work consistently. The same goes for builders block... find someone creative for ideas :)

I'll fold the wings or something. Maybe a wingless dragon... Thanks for the quick reply!

^ obviously you know better (as you are looking at the actual moc.) But couldn't read this without saying, wings are awesome... even if they are tiny. I'd be hard pressed to forgo them, unless its chinese. :)

I've taken care of it. They fold enough to give the dragon a 30x68-ish stud foorprint. Now it is time for some polishing!

I feel like such a pain, asking all of these questions, but does the size constraint apply just to the dragon, or a diorama too? Also, if one grossly exceeds said size restraint, are they just disqualified from the main prizes or from all prizes?
Posted 3 months ago.
|
|
Not a pain at all! :D
^ The diorama needs to fit the sizes. So one cannot make a said two baseplate dragon on a 20 baseplate scene. the whole moc is encompassed in the size restriction. (there is no height restriction)
^ Disqualification applies to the top three prizes only. The mini prizes (the ones we've shared and ones we may still make/give are up to our own happy generosity and can be given to anyone :) That being said, they still will be generally predictable and follow their own specific category and best quality. :)

^^ terribly sorry :( still hope you can participate! :)
^ yeah, it will be generally decided through weighted comparison, not just color brilliancy. ie. if you build a slightly gold dragon and no one else builds one, then great, you will likely get a gold mini trophy. If someone else builds a MAJORLY/over the top gold dragon and you build an awesome higher quality chrome gold accented bio-mech.. your likely gonna win.

^^ I don't mind people editing their entries or swapping out photos up until the deadline. Just don't get caught without your entry entered :P
If your talking about, basically building the same guy in a different color as a new separate entry, then i'm guessing your just fighting against judges personal opinions in regards to creativity. You wouldn't be disqualified at all. I would personally judge one entry slightly higher than the other.
^ Yeah! More dragons great!

^^ Theoretically (especially since both a green dragon and a gold dragon have been entered) I would give you both of them :) haha but again not trophies to be shot for, just to make the contest more fun! And thanks! glad you like'm :D
^ Just one needs to be entered here. We as judges will do our HW ;) and if you have multiple different angle/useful photos posted on your own photostream we will see them :)
We will do our best to judge the actual dragon, not just what is shown. That said presentation is a lot, so make that one photo good!

I am building a "Necro" Dragon, and I want to use LEGO skeletons, are they considered to be "vulgar"? Also am I allowed to make a custom leathery part for my dragon's wings? Thanks!
Posted 3 months ago.
|
|
^ An undead dragon would be awesome. Skeletons are not what we were thinking about deterring when we made that statement. :)
As far as wing parts usage... I would avoid using non products in the moc. This may be unavoidable, but you might want to think slightly harder and outside of the box. maybe flame webbing? capes? red plates? For a necropolis skeleton dragon... here are some more kosher ideas :)
Paper (good for printing designs on), cloth (starched sheets mimic greatly lego sails), even possibly lego plastic bags... If you have to use leather and such we wouldn't disqualify you, but those who worked hard to build "lego pure" wings will be judged more favorably.
:) hope this helped!

I am trying to make wings for my dragon, but they are way too heavy, and I don't know if I have the time to perfect them. I was wondering if I would be deducted points for the prizes if I decide not to make my dragon with with wings? Like, if my dragon doesn't have wings, would it be less likely to win a prize than a dragon that does have wings?

But if you try to connect the wings with a string and balance them... Or make it like having wings on the ground...

The sad thing about contests with multiple entries allowed is that they end.
I hope I'll still have enough motivation to build dragons when this is over, or maybe I'll return to sci-fi for a month.
