About Facing Out, Facing In: Michener Art Museum

Are you a navel-gazer or the life of the party? Do you enjoy quiet conversations with one or two people or animated gatherings with friends? Are you more interested in the inward journey of self-discovery or making a difference in the world through political activism? All of the above, or perhaps none?

The Facing Out, Facing In exhibit asks you to ponder these questions, and also reflect on how they apply to art and artists. The works in this show were chosen because the curator believes they either “faced out” or “faced in,” i.e. tended to focus on the interior life of the artist and subject, or on the exterior life of politics, social commentary, and reportage.
