About Making Mandalas

Mandalas are sacred circles used in meditation and healing. I'm a school counselor and will be using them to teach coping skills to elementary age children starting in the fall of 2010. Please feel free to share your hand-drawn, hand-made mandalas. Use media readily available to school-age children: markers, crayons, collage, glitter, stickers, paint, etc. Beginners and ALL ages WELCOME! I'll be posting themes and art techniques about once a week.

Making mandalas is a way to express yourself with visual language. The intention is to create greater insight and understanding in self and others, as well as help you cope with emotions and thoughts. Mandalas act as a safe container for emotions so that they do not have to be loose in the world. Although the Mandala can become an extension of the self, it can also be a place to play and experiment with art materials. Have fun, explore, be creative, express yourself!!
