About Moon and Half Dome Celestial Encore, November 28, 2009
This group if for photos made during the recent encore of Ansel's famous image of Moon and Half Dome. Anyone who was there that evening is invited to add photos to this group.
On November 28th a celestial "encore" of Moon and Half Dome was to appear in the sky east of the Ahwahnee Meadow in Yosemite National Park. The moon would be a fraction of a degree north of where it was on December 28th, 1960, when Ansel made this photograph. Even though snow showers were predicted for earlier in that day, it was also predicted to be clear that night. Blustery winds from the east pushed snow showers toward Half Dome just as the moon was moving into position at 4:04 pm. The crowd that had come to the Ahwahnee Meadow to view the rare event was not too disappointed as you will see from the photos in this group. Dedicated photographers always find something to photograph!
