Daniel Woodrell's novel follows a 16-year-old heroine named Ree Dolly as she hunts for her drug-dealing father, while trying to keep her family intact. The book is set in Missouri's Ozarks.
Woodrell's writing is compared to the work of Appalachian photographer Shelby Lee Adams, whose pictures and perspective can be viewed at the Museum of Contemporary Photography’s website at mocp.org/collections/permanent/adams_shelby_lee.php.
