Hi
I love the spiderweb block, have not made one, but would love to learn.
I'm up for a spiderweb bee.
Anyone else?
The beauty of this bee is that we will be doing a mixture of our own scraps and mailed fabric. In other words you get to decide if you
a. want others to use their scraps for your blocks
b. want to send your own fabric to the others for your blocks, or
c. a mixture of the two,
When it's your month, you make the call.
Please respond here or send me a flickr mail if you would like to join.
We need 6 more for a full year of quilting.
All of the details will be ironed out once we get a full bee.

I'm up for a bee too, anyone else? It's really not too difficult to make the spiderweb blocks. If we don't get that many people, we can also one-on-one sway one :)

Bellaandmolly -- do you want to bee mama? :) I can if you don't want to organize. thanks so much for pushing this along! I've been making a bunch of spiderwebs and was really wanting to swap some more.

I'd like other people to use their own scraps rather than sending fabric ... is that okay? what were you imagining as the rules?

and I agree, spread the word all!!!

Oh, how sweet!  Pro User  says:

Not that this affects my decision to be part of the group :) - just curious -

is this a swap or a bee? Meaning, am I going to receive my own fabrics back or someone else's in the completed spider web? And, is this a one-time thing, or a monthly thing?

Thanks!!

We'll have to see what BellandMolly has in mind :)

I don't care if we call it a swap or a bee, but I'd prefer that everyone use their own fabrics for my blocks following some of my limited preferences. I want it to look very scrappy and would like more fresh fabrics to the mix. I am happy to make blocks for others using their fabrics if they'd like.

As for the timing, we could sew a block for another person in the group once a month? Like a round robin style.

Say there were 4 people, in the first month,
A could make for B
B could make for C
C could make for D
D could make for A

Then we could rotate each month.

I can work out the details if bellandmolly doesn't want to host and figure it out, but I'll wait to hear from her first, tehehe.

Hi Girls =)
I was wanting to do a 12 month bee with 2 blocks per month where each has a month and sends their own fabric out. We get 22 blocks back as well as our scraps. I was also going to supply everyone with the instructions for the block if they needed them.
I hope I am not disappointing anyone with this method. =(

Def not disappointed!!

Is it okay to request people use their own scraps? Or maybe I could send a few but ask everyone to supplement? I'm not trying to be difficult, I've just made a hearty handful of blocks with my scraps and would love some diversity.

Here's what I got so far :)

I love spiderwebs so much that if this scrap style isn't okay, I can just send fabrics and make another one :)

i'd love to do a spiderweb bee as well- but I would like to join in a scrap one - as I think this is great for scrap busting and also- like Athenamat - think it would add more diversity to the quilt.- so if a second group starts up with scraps I'll join you- otherwise I'll enjoy looking at all the gorgeous blocks from the sidelines!! what fun!!

Might I suggest something?

How about the person "hosting" that month can specify if they want the others to use their fabric that would be supplied, or others' scraps? I have no problem using my scraps for those that want them!!

How about you, bellaandmolly? Would that be okay?

works for me- and what a great solution- I also have no problem sending replacement fabric to anyone who uses their scraps for me - if that would be helpful. and of course will send out base fabric so that they all have a common center. and aren't athenamat's just delicious??!!

I would be interested in joining. This would be my first Flickr block swap. I've been in a quilt group that meets every other Tuesday for the past 17 years. I have fabric galore! I have always enjoyed this quilt block. I posted a vintage quilt that my Aunt has that is now a rocking chair cushion.

Yeah - we have 12. I am so excited!!!! =)
I will add annamichellequilts and flossyblossy to the list.
This weekend I will set up a blog and a flickr and do the invites and all of the bookkeeping stuff.
I wish I could do it now, but I have students just begging to learn Algebra.
haha.

I would love any suggestions on how to run this so that we are using scraps and sent fabric and making everyone happy and not having anyone feel like they are required to use too much of their stuff and not getting much in return. Does that make sense? I want to make sure that we also end up with enough blocks for a nice size quilt.

I was thinking that each member could decide what they want to do when it is their month. We would choose to either
send all of the fabric,
send some of the fabric and request scraps be added,
or request all scraps.
This seems to be the thinking of the group, but I want to make sure we are all in agreement.

I found a couple of nice tutorials for this block that I will also be posting once I get the blog set up

gretters_h says:

Well how about when it is each persons month they send the base fabric and some scraps to each person. Then they could also specify if they want their blocks made only from the scraps they sent or if they want everyone to incorporate some of their own as well. This way everyone will be able to do some scrap busting but will also receive some as well. Even if they don't make it into that block they may be the perfect thing for another project you are working on. Plus it would keep it all even. So even if you only wanted specific colors in your blocks or whatever you are still equally contributing to everyone's by making blocks and sending scraps that they can incorporate into additional blocks for their own quilt. And if we all make two blocks for each other plus a few for ourselves we should end up with a nice large quilt.

I need another project like a need a hole in the head (you seen my UFO list?) but this was WAY to exciting to miss. I have done a few spiderwebs and i love them.

give.it.a.go says:

Yay! So glad we have twelve. For my month, I was thinking of sending my "center" fabric and a few scraps of my own, and then asking people to supplement with their scraps. That way, nobody is having to use too much of their own fabric.

Looking forward to it!

athenamat is a group administrator athenamat says:

I like the three choices, but I agree with others that maybe we should send a few scraps of our own to be supplemented with the others. I want other pple to use their scraps not because I don't want to use my fabric (I have so much and have been on a recent buying binge!)but because I want more variety. I could send scraps, ask for them NOT to be used in my block, but the receiver could use them for other projects/other blocks in this swap? I def don't mind just making a block entirely out of my scraps for the other people but if others are worried about it being fair, then sending some scraps to not be used in my block works fine for me :P

I love the idea of 2/month too. It takes me between 30 mins and an hour to make each block so this is really not a large time commitment but we'll have big beautiful quilts at the end!!

Also, like the other bees, I'd like to be able to say some restrictions on the scraps, i.e. I prefer certain colors or the use of a certain amount of strings on each side, etc.

annamichellequilts  Pro User  says:

Wow, this is gonna be fun! I have always admired these quilts but just have not had the time to do one. I think these ideas are great. I wouldn't mind sending out my own scraps, I have plenty, but I would love for others to incorporate theirs. I think it makes for a more interesting quilt. I do think that we should send out our own base fabrics though. That way we have a say in the solid color in between the webs.
