In Ancient China during the Qing Dynasty when someone was conferred the title of empress she would be granted a gold seal as an indication of her status. The seal, made of 550 ounces of third-grade pure gold, has a double-dragon knob, a flat base that is 4.4 Chinese inches square and 1.2 Chinese inches thick, bearing seal-script Chinese and Manchu characters.
