About St. Anthony abbot

Representations from the life of Saint Anthony abbot.
Most famous and most frequently represented are the temptations of St. Antony, but all pictures from art-history dealing with the life and dead of St. Anthony are welcome.

Saint Anthony the Great is also known as Saint Anthony Abbot or Saint Anthony of Egypt, Saint Anthony of the Desert, Saint Anthony the Anchorite, and The Father of All Monks.

Typical attributes of Saint Anthony abbot are:
the Greek letter "tau", sometimes his cane or crutch shows a handle in "tau" shape
the little bell
the swine or pig
the fire (hinting to the malady called St. Anthony's fire, disease caused by ergot / Claviceps purpurea in the cereals)
