About 1000 cities - 1000 lives campaign
One day during the week of 7 April 2010, up through Sunday 11 April cities around the world are called on to close off their streets to traffic and promote a physical or mental health activity.
With the "1000 lives - 1000 cities" campaign, the World Health Organization (WHO) wants to encourage people to enjoy the urban setting in which they live, mingle with fellow residents in an open-air environment, enjoy exercise, music and being outdoors with friends and neighbours.
The goal of the campaign is:
• 1000 cities – for 1000 cities to close off portions of streets to traffic and promote a mental or physical activity.
• 1000 lives - to collect 1000 stories of urban health champions who have taken action to improve health in their cities.
Be part of a global movement to make cities healthier!
