Flickr Video... will the next step be "100 Interviews" ?
 |
So I am just a bit curious... I have always asked myself what happens once you complete the 100 Strangers project? What do you do then...
Now with the announcement that flickr has added videos to its product line... I wonder... if upon completing the "100 Strangers photo" or the "100 Aquaintances" project we should consider doing interviews?
Perhaps this would be a good way to display the skills we learned in the photographic phase... sort of a logical progression type thing. And to cap it all off wrap it up with a self interview!
Thoughts... comments... suggestions?
Of course I would then have to purchase a new toy!!

Not a bad idea. Actually, one media workshop for youth in Helsinki got inspired by the 100strangers project and did a couple of video interviews of strangers.
Doing a 90-second video portrait is not an easy task, I can tell you that. You need more than one toy: it's not enough to have a camcorder, you need some editing software as well.
But as you said, many skills learned in "100 strangers - the photo edition" would be useful in the video version as well.
Or, now when I come to think about it - I'd say people could post video interviews to the 100 strangers pool as well. Who says it's about photography - it's about social skills.

Whilst I like your idea and can see the natural progression, I personally won't be supporting video on flickr. I think it's a real shame that a photography site is likely to get diluted with kids with mobile phones. youtube does video flickr does photos. Just my 2 pence worth!
For those that feel the same and for what it's worth:
