Well, I'm pretty impressed by the amount of good quality pictures in our pool here at -25, not bad guys...not bad at all.

Aside from announcing the winners for this week I also have some unfortunate news, I won't be around for the next few weeks. I never realized how much work it was getting ready for a child. My girlfriend and I are having a baby boy in 33 days (so close...) and we have so much crap left to do. Even though we are just getting started around here I'm going to have to take a brief hiatus. I'll be back after a few weeks though, once things get less hectic around here...and I'll still drop by every once in awhile.

Anyways, here are my choices for this weeks winners:

3rd place:

Up and up

I love the dog in this picture, it may be my favorite part :P Aside from the good use of a strobe, the overall feeling of this photo is just a little..."awkward" and that is exactly why I like it. Technically, the exposure is spot on and the post processing is not apparent, which fits the image well. Nice work.

2nd place:

being idle

I hate TV. There, I said it. I don't know whether this picture represents a similar disinterest in America's most prominent pastime or not, but I like it. The green hue works very well with the greyness of the screen in my opinion and creates a desolate, serene theme. The fact that the tv is centered in the image makes it hard to look away, it draws your attention to the only subject in the picture. So there you go folks, go throw your tv off a cliff....it'll be more satisfying than anything you've ever done (trust me).

1st place.

still standing

Whoever said that a picture had to be complicated to be good? I love the tones of this black and white image, it has the perfect amount of texture and contrast. The rumpled up socks, the perfect exposure, the centered subject matter, the blurred edges, and other elements come together to create a picture that is simple and uncomplicated yet tells the viewer just enough about the subject to be intrigued. Congratulations to lisa danilko on winning this weeks competition and the Playstation 2!

Honorable mentions:
(these are just a few pictures that I thought deserved some attention for one reason or another)

Engulfed
Endless Summer
hang over
Skate 2

Thanks for stopping by guys! Keep up the good work and I'll see you around!

Wow congratulations guys.!
I especially like the picture that won the third place :)

Caleb, when you have the time, I suggest we should try to start some competitions in the group. Small ones.

We could for example have 2 subjects per month, and post our contest photos in the pool and in a group debate about the subject that is chosen.

Wow, thanks Caleb! What an awesome surprise to wake up to. Just in time for my birthday too. Congrats to Spencer and Carlos as well, both of your images are very creative, inspiring and well done.

And congrats on the upcoming birth of your baby Caleb, you must be thrilled even though its such a busy time. Thanks for starting this group and can't wait till you're back!
