Lonely Tree

I'm still not 100% happy with this... any sugestions?
With all this support and praise I guess I should be happy, I honestly can't place what it is but there was/is something nagging me on this shot, maybe the fact that I had this for a couple of months now. I honestly don't know, think that composition is ok... light and color is ok but something missing, maybe Phillip is right and I should crop it a litle. This is a full frame shot by the way!

I don't know Rod. I personally think messing with the foreground may diminish the power of the sky. I say leave it how it is, but I of course don't know what kind of changes you were considering.

You've entitled it "Lonely Tree", so I imagine a little more lighting behind the tree is what you're thinking, but I wouldn't do it much.

It's fantastic in my humble opinion.

I can see what you mean with this shot....it's very appealing alright but maybe a crop of the bottom right might increase the impact slightly,

however it has been proven in the past that I don't really know what I'm talking about ;-P

I see what you mean - it certainly is possible to crop the bottom and right and it would draw the focus more onto the tree, but at the same time you might lose some of the perspective!

I know that feeling mate. I occasionally feel the same about some my images as well. Compositions: all right, colors: all right, tonal range: all right, but somethings just missing somewhere.

I think this is because we got used to our own subjects and quality. We want to push our own boundaries constantly in order to maintain quality / interestingness (mostly without any good reason). I also think this is a dangerous thought, because we can't look at our own stuff objectively if we are pushed by other forces then our own artistic taste and judgment.

perhaps you could photoshop the lot, making the foreground a bit brighter and leaving the sky as it is. But I don't know the 1st thing about photoshop, so please ask someone else ;-)

You might get a different atmosphere from brighten it up as orvalrochefort said. Try to adjust levels and curves in Photoshop.
I do like the capture as it is. It is beautiful and has a dramatic atmosphere.
