The actual Telephone Box and Me are SOOC. By that I mean, it was a long exposure and I moved half way through, making me half see through. The clouds and tones are post processing, obviously. :P

Thanks to Emma for helping me with this and giving me the title :D

I'm thinking of dropping Art at college and taking Media instead. Because the Art course is crap at my college and they're not keen on me using photography. Whereas the media department promote photography and encourage students to use it. What you think Flickr? To swap or not to swap? :S

How stupid, well basically i think your tutors suck at college as photography is totally an art. I would swap then if it means more photography. Great manipulation :)

    Ooh I love love this!

I did media A-level at college - I know it varies a lot from college to college, depending on the syllabus and exam board and such. In the first year, the coursework was to create 3 pages of a magazine, and so we got to create the photography for that. It's been a while so I can't remember much else of what we did - i know the exam was textual analysis of a short film clip, and then a discussion about gender representation in tv programmes. The second year we got to create a short film, but I think you could have done other things if you wanted - so you'd be able to do something photography-based there, if your college's syllabus is similar! An awful lot of it was about film and tv rather than other kinds of media.

I think it's unfair that they're not letting you use photography how you want in art - the idea of art is *personal expression* and photography IS an art form, so it's just biased! Perhaps you could talk to your art teacher, tell them you're considering switching because you want to use more photography - they might let you focus more onto it, they often make exceptions for people (i.e. in my media course, if I remember rightly someone made a computer game or some other computer-graphics thingy instead of a short film cause that was their forte).

Good luck making the decision! xx

I think you're going to get a resounding "swap" decision here. Of course, you have to consider the source. My vote? Swap.

  27. rosiehardy (33 months ago | reply)

    i love this kane!! dang!
i would say swap. Art was crap at my 6th form too, they always said "this is an art a level, not a photography a level". so on the last day of term when all our coursework was due in i dumped a big fat scrapbook full of every photo I took that year on their desk. I wish I hadn't wasted my time with that subject. Go media!!!

as for swapping, i would say swap, it sounds like you would be happier in a media course and if your happy you will enjoy class and do better so yeah ! :D

good luck with your decision!! :)

wow great use of an authentic telephone booth! this amazing! i dont think ive ever seen one where i am.
really cool processing too i have to say! the clouds and the blur really add to the image.
and the half see through of your body.
    just amazing!

uhh, i think you should swap =) you said it yourself! i think your photography is really just impressive, so i think your teachers/classmates will be stunned. its a great place to showcase your photography i guess and youve already shown how your images appeal to so many people! great for the media i guess! i say swap :D

  33. Georgia Wiggs (33 months ago | reply)

Wow! that sucks about art :S
here they're really supportive with photography (so long as it's actually good and you do something original- which you do) is there the option to do studio art? because thats what i do- and there's actually a studio art photography course...
Butttt I imagine that things over in england are a bit different... for one- we don't have collage- it's highschool and then university lol.
But i say swap if they're not letting you do it !!
AWSOME photo by the way. :)
